Poetry X Development Log
Lives of the Poets
10 September 2003
Writing these biographies have proven to be a bane on my patience. The poets of antiquity at least I can just serve up the facts, but contemporary poets, especially if I don't know them at all, are more difficult.
For instance, most "bios" are little more than a list of publication credits, awards, and teaching positions. The bios on Poetry X are no exception.
I try to entertain myself by parodying these bios, always trying to list where the poet lives and put a "human" spin on their bio at the very last line, like:
"Joe Bax lives in a beat-up old shack outside of Sandusky, Ohio, with his wife Irene, their two children, and an old smell-hound named Rufus."
Pure dreck.
So I will keep plugging away at it, until I can't stands no more.
Today I also began working on the sidebar for the poetry archive home page. I was offline at a client's office most of the day, but managed to get a little bit of work done.
I also toyed around with some new header graphics to replace the section headings, like "Poetry X Articles," etc. Nothing good came of that, though.
Tomorrow I continue along with more bios, work on designing the homepage, and etc. Lots of etcetera.
And last but not least, Happy Birthday to the lovely and talented Kate Northrop, who turns [cough, cough, ahem] years old today.
